‘My Name Is Ruin’ New Single & Video Shoot

June 22, 2017

BMG have chosen the song ‘My Name Is Ruin’ from the Savage album as the first single. Although I’m notoriously bad at choosing singles, and so not the best judge, I agree that this song is a good choice. The video for it was filmed last Friday and Saturday in the desert area around 29 Palms and Joshua Tree. As luck would have it both days witnessed a monster heat wave and we saw temperatures as high as 118 F (48 C) so it was HOT!!

The video was filmed once again by IAMX main man Chris Corner, assisted by Janine Gezang and her lovely sister Lydia. Chris filmed the I Am Dust video for Splinter, without doubt one of the best videos I’ve ever made, so we were in safe hands for ‘Ruin’. The locations were stunning. Desolate, dry, forbidding and, as I said, incredibly hot. Absolutely perfect for an album devoted mostly to a future world devastated by Global Warming.

My daughter Persia, who sang on the track, also featured in the video and did an amazing job I’m relieved to say. Although all three girls had a tiny walk on part in the Love Hurt Bleed video this was Persia’s first proper session at filming and lip syncing. I was nervous that nerves would get the better of her (she’s only 11 after all) and she would just giggle and not be able to do what was needed. But, she overcame her nerves, shyness and the ridiculous heat and just got on with it. I was very proud of her, and she looked amazing.

I have no release date for the single at the moment, and it will only be digital so no hard copy unfortunately. I have yet to create the digital cover shot but I’ll be doing that over the next few days.

We’ve made a radio edit for it and BMG are putting a lot of effort in to getting it played in as many places as possible but, as always, it’s not the most ‘pop’ song out there so it will struggle I’m sure.

The video will also take a while before the editing is complete and the finished film is delivered but, when it is, I hope to have it seen as widely as possible. Again, with BMG’s involvement, I’m hopeful that things will be better on that side of things than they were with I Am Dust.

The video was shot to the full length version of the track, which runs a little over six minutes. Whether we are able to make an edit that ties in with the 4 min 24 second radio version we shall have to see. A huge thank you to Chris Corner though. He has an incredible eye for filming and seemingly can make a flat featureless desert look epic and exciting. I’m really glad he was able to take it on at short notice and I’m grateful for all the amazing work he did during the shoot.

New UK Shows added in July

June 01, 2017

We have added two more shows in July. Previously we had Liverpool on the 27th and the Standon Calling festival on the 30th. We have now added Hull (The Welly) on July 28th and Leamington Spa (The Assembly) on July 29th. This has now become something that we are calling the Savage Pre-Release Mini Tour, with the main Savage UK tour taking place in September/October.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on June 2nd and the ticket details for the two extra shows are as follows:

Hull (The Welly) July 28th.

Leamington Spa (The Assembly) July 29th.

The final list of four shows for the July Mini Tour can be seen on the flyer below.

Poland show added to Euro Tour

May 31, 2017

Very pleased to announce that we have now confirmed another show on the European Savage Tour. We will now play in Lodz, Poland on October 27th at the Klub Wytwornia as part of the Soundedit Festival 2017. The ticket link for the Lodz show is here.

The final dates for this first Savage European Tour are below:

Gang Of Four, Liverpool, July 27th

May 31, 2017

I’m sad to announce that due to personal reasons my long time hero John Foxx has had to pull out of the show in Liverpool on July 27th, the first of the Savage shows this year. I wish John and his family the very best of luck in the coming months. However, the most excellent and legendary Gang Of Four have now stepped in and will join me in Liverpool, which should make for a quite exceptional evening.

Tickets are here.

Ade Fenton Producer

May 26, 2017

I wanted to say a big thank you to Ade Fenton. Savage is the 4th album I’ve worked on with Ade, and the most painless by far (I think we’re getting used to each other), but his work is just exceptional. He’s not only extremely creative but ridiculously hard working, even in difficult circumstances. It’s easy to discuss alternative ideas with him, he’s not precious about things and is always looking to make the music better, even if that means, on very rare occasions, undoing his own work and starting again. He makes it a far more enjoyable experience than you would expect, given the enormous pressure that is always present as part and parcel of making albums. As he often tells me, I just need to write better songs 🙂

Pledge Campaign

May 26, 2017

The Pledge Campaign that has been following the creation of Savage from first note to now, and will continue to the finished shrink wrapped loveliness is still very much ongoing. Although the main album is now finished Gary still has three extra songs to write, the artwork to complete for the various versions and the entire promo campaign to get underway. You can still join the campaign and take advantage of the many offers and sneak previews that are exclusive to Pledgers, including pre-ordering the album for that important first week delivery. The campaign will stay active until approximately two weeks before the release date of the album, that date will be announced in the near future. You have plenty of time left though.

If you wish to join the Pledge Campaign you can do so by clicking on this link.

Savage Album Mastered

May 26, 2017

The Savage album is officially finished and is now just waiting for the artwork designs. The final mixes were completed last week by Nathan Boddy in London, working alongside Gary and producer Ade Fenton, and the album was them mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering on May 19th. The track listing for the standard album is:

Ghost Nation, Bed Of Thorns, My Name Is Ruin, The End Of Things, And It All Began With You, When The World Comes Apart, Mercy, What God Intended, Pray For The Pain You Serve, Broken.

An extra track ‘If I Said’ will be added to the Deluxe CD as well as the vinyl version. The vinyl version also gets a second extra track called ‘Cold’.
